What are crawlability, sitemaps, and page speed?

By the Sanctuary Growth Co team · Last updated September 11, 2026

Crawlability is whether search engines can reach and read your pages, a sitemap is the map you hand them listing those pages, and page speed is how quickly your site loads for a visitor. If Google cannot crawl a page, it cannot rank it — and if a page loads slowly, some visitors leave before it finishes.

What is it?

Crawlability describes how easily a search engine's bot can move through your site and read each page; broken links, blocked pages, or messy code get in its way. An XML sitemap is a machine-readable list of your pages that you submit to Google so it knows what exists and where to look. Page speed — measured today through Core Web Vitals — captures how fast your page loads and becomes usable. Together these are the technical plumbing of SEO: unglamorous, but the foundation everything else rests on.

Why it matters for your spa

A page that cannot be crawled or indexed is invisible in search, no matter how good its content is — so crawl problems quietly cost you rankings you never knew you were missing. Speed matters just as much for a spa: visitors on phones abandon slow pages, and Google factors loading experience into rankings. A studio's booking page that takes several seconds to appear loses real appointments to impatience. Fixing crawlability and speed protects both the rankings you have earned and the bookings that depend on visitors actually staying long enough to act.

How we do it for you

We check that your important pages are indexable, repair broken links and crawl blocks, and make sure your XML sitemap is complete and submitted to Google Search Console. On speed, we measure your Core Web Vitals and address the common culprits we can control — oversized images, unnecessary scripts, and render-blocking resources — so pages load faster on the phones most of your clients use. We are honest about limits: some speed factors live in your theme or hosting, and we tell you which. The results appear in your plain-English report, and you can begin with a free AI visibility report.

What is a sitemap for?

A sitemap is a list of your pages that you give to search engines so they can find and index everything, including pages that might otherwise be missed. We make sure yours is complete and submitted.

Why does page speed affect bookings?

Visitors, especially on phones, leave pages that load slowly. A faster booking page keeps more people around long enough to actually book, and speed is also a ranking factor.

Can you make my site load instantly?

No honest provider promises instant. We fix the speed issues within our control — images, scripts, blocking resources — and tell you which remaining factors depend on your theme or host.

How do I know a page is indexed?

We check indexation in Google Search Console and report the status. If an important page is not indexed, we find out why and fix it.
